tn3270 Version 2.3d26 June 18, 1991
This package consists of tn3270 for the Macintosh and related files.
tn3270 is a version of Telnet which allows a Macintosh to connect to
an IBM host as a 3270 terminal. Use of tn3270 requires that a TCP/IP
connection can be establish between the Macintosh and the host, and
that the host is running a Telnet server which includes 3270 support.
Two versions of tn3270 are provided, a version which uses MacTCP, and
a version with built-in TCP/IP networking support. Both versions are
included in the distribution package.
The distribution files are provided in a self-extracting Compact Pro
archives. Two versions are provided: "tn3d26.seabin" is an archive
containing the distribution files. "tn3d26im.seabin" is an archive
containing an image file of the tn3270 distribution disk. The image is
of an HD floppy disk (1.4mb), and may be used with Apple's DiskCopy
program, or with MountImage by Steve Christensen.
To obtain the distribution files, first downlaad "tn3d26.seabin" as a binary
file. If possible, specify MacBinary file transfer in order to skip a
conversion step. If MacBinary was used, "tn3d26.sea" will be downloaded
directly to your Mac. Otherwise, use BinHex 5.0 or an equivalent program to
restore "tn3d26.sea" from "tn3d26.seabin". Finally, double-click on
"tn3d26.sea" to run the built-in extraction program.
To obtain the disk image file, follow the same steps, but substitute "tn3d26im"
for "tn3d26" in the file names.
In case binary file transfer cannot be used, the distribution files are also
available as text files in BinHex format. The files are "tn3d26.seahqx" and
"tn3d26im.seahqx". They are downloaded similarly to the MacBinary versions,
but require BinHex conversion instead.
It is not necessary to use the self-extracting feature of the archive files.
They may also be opened and manipulated by Compact Pro, or any program which
supports Compact Pro archives.
Source for tn3270 is also available. Directions for downloading the source
are contained in the file "tnsource.read-me".
